Sky's the Limit (Doomsday Preppers #1) by Elle Aycart

Available on

Synopsis:

Tired of waiting for her big break in the fashion industry, Sky Gonzalez, eternal part-time student and overworked retail drone, quits her job, sublets her New York apartment, and embarks on a semester abroad study program in Paris. Paris! Time to throw caution to the winds and jump-start her dreams. What’s the worst that could happen?

How about getting sent to the wrong Paris? As in Paris-frigging-Minnesota?

Bye-bye career dreams. Bye-bye glamour and haute couture. Hello flannel shirts, mind-numbing cold, zero bars on the cell phone, and socially challenged mountain men with tons of unruly facial hair.

So yeah, let the truck barreling her way hit her, please. Less painful.

Logan should have dodged the little lost waif and kept on driving. Who in their right mind walked in the middle of the road, dressed in white from head to high heels, during a snowstorm? Clueless city girls, that's who. Sky is all that Logan has gladly left behind: stylish, cosmopolitan, and a massive pain in the butt. He wouldn’t trade a single day in his quirky little corner of the woods for all the high-maintenance beauties the city can offer.

Too bad this beauty has been deemed a health hazard and quarantined in his house. Damn his doomsday-prepper neighbors and their paranoid emergency protocols. Now he has to keep Sky in and the pandemic squad out until the roads are clear. The question is, will that happen before or after Sky realizes she's under house arrest?

Ah, the best-laid plans...

Review:

Sky's the Limit was so much fun!! Really I saw something the author posted about a doomsday prepper romance and I said I have to read this book. I mean who has read a prepper romance before? Not me. So I grabbed a copy and started reading...and didn't put it down until I finished. Well, maybe a few pauses to tell my husband all the fun, crazy things that were happening because I enjoyed this story so so much.

When I first started reading I will admit I wasn't sure about it. Sky was a little...I didn't really like her with her being all about her makeup and clothing and what you look like on the outside being the most important thing. Because I am not into makeup and clothing and she was a bit over the top for me. Even though I wasn't sure about Sky the oddness of having a romance set in a small town where everyone is a doomsday prepper was enough for me to keep reading. And I am so glad I did because it is one of my favorite reads so far this year. And Sky has her reasons for being all about her looks. Once I got to know her I loved her so much. Plus I loved how she was willing to go along with all the wacky hijinks in the town. The townspeople weren't too sure about Sky at the beginning, but by the end they fell in love with her just like I did. How could you not? She is so kind and fun and wonderful!

Logan was also really wonderful. He is so kind and a bit of a pushover at times but in the best of ways. He would do anything for those he cares about, even live in this town full of crazy preppers. He was also super sweet with Sky. He was a bit hesitant at first because of the way she portrays herself, he has had some bad experiences with people who come off the way she does at first, so he doesn't want to make the same mistakes again, but he is a sweetheart. I loved him so much. Everything he does for Sky and her dog who has a few issues? So incredibly sweet! Oh, I loved him. The two of them together were perfect. I loved watching them fall in love, especially with the backdrop of the crazy town. Of all the drills and things they had to do to appease the preppers. Because you never know what might happen. Really the preppers were hilarious and I gotta say now I want more! I can't wait for more prepper romances!
