Preppy: The Life and Death of Samuel Clearwater, Part Two (King #6) by T.M. Frazier
Now available on
Synopsis:
Preppy finds himself back in a world he once loved, but no longer recognizes. His dim smile can’t hide his inner turmoil and the people he views as family all suddenly feel like polite strangers.
Except for one person. A girl with dark eyes and even darker hair.
A girl who isn’t even an option.
At least, not anymore.
Dre can’t decide who she’s going to listen to. Her heart, her head, or her body. Because two out of those three things have her heading right back to Logan’s Beach. Closure is what she tells herself she’s seeking, but when she unlocks doors that were never meant to be opened she soon discovers that when it comes to Samuel Clearwater, closure might NEVER be an option.
This is book six in the King Series and the second part of Preppy and Dre's story.
Review:
Note: This is NOT a standalone book. This is the second part of Preppy and Dre's story, but you should really have read all of the books in the King series prior to reading this one or else you may be a bit lost. They are all amazing anyways so what are you waiting for? Spoilers for prior books ahead!
I love Preppy! I loved him from the first book and I love him even more now. He is amazing! I went into this book super excited to read it, but also dreading it a bit as man, he went through a lot. How is he going to get back to himself in this new world he finds himself in? Will he be able to get back to that amazing guy we all know and love? He was locked up and tortured for a long time and that has to be hard on anyone. Plus, will he be able to work things out with Dre? Who all was behind keeping him alive in secret? What else are these people I love going to have to endure before they prevail?
This book felt a bit tamer than the author's other books but in the best way. Like it felt like what this book needed to be and I loved that the author didn't add more to the story. That she really told this wonderful story the way it should be told. Plus we get a third part which only makes it better! Preppy has come back from the dead and Dre can't believe it. She thought he was dead along with everyone else, so when she shows up it is...Preppy is not himself. He is struggling, really struggling, but he doesn't want to talk about it or burden anyone else with what he went through. He just wants to get back to normal, but he doesn't know how. He doesn't know how to be himself after so long. That and everyone is treating him like he might break any second and he is having a rough time. Oh, Preppy. I love him so much and it was hard watching him struggle. Thankfully he is surrounded by wonderful people who love him just as much as I do.
Dre was really great in this story. She is clean and sober and ready to be there for Preppy. She had come to get closure, but how can she walk away from him? Especially when he is struggling just to be? These two. They don't have an easy time of it, but really who does in these books? But what they go through, the demons the fight and the struggles the overcome just make them better people. Stronger. Wiser. Ready to take on the world. All of the people in Preppy's self-made family are incredible. They would all do anything for each other and I loved it. Preppy himself felt like he grew a bit. He is more clear on what he wants and needs than he was before he was supposedly killed. I loved this story. I loved how simple it was in a way, but not really simple at all. I don't know that that makes sense, but read this book and then you might see what I am trying to say. It was wonderful. Kind, Ray, Bear, Thia, Preppy & Dre - I love these characters and I can't wait to see what happens next. This does end on a bit of a cliffhanger, but I didn't find it to be too bad. Maybe it is because I know these characters and the wrath that will fall down on anyone who tries to mess with one of them. I am just excited to see how this all turns out. I know they probably have more hell to go through, but hopefully they all make it out the other side. I cannot wait!
