Synopsis:

Have you ever felt like you were living your life for a future that was predetermined? Like there was some bigger picture you just prayed you would someday see clearly? That picture has been crystal clear to me since I was old enough to recognize it for just what it was.

Or I should say recognize him for who he was.

I’ve loved Cohen Cage since I was a small child. He’s been my everything for the last twenty-two years. I’ve loved him through every girlfriend he’s ever brought home. Through his college years and then mine. I’ve loved him through two deployments. And ever since the day I told him how I felt, he’s acted like I’m a stranger.

My name is Danielle Reid, and it’s time for me to get my man.

Our future is an unexpected fate, and no matter what our parents, siblings, and friends say…it’s going to be worth every second of the fight to make it happen.

Review:

Since I finished reading Uncaged I have been looking forward to reading Cohen's story. That kid was adorable and I knew that he would love fiercely. I couldn't wait to get to know him as an adult and see who he falls in love with. I knew it would be amazing.

Unexpected Fate is the story of Cohen and Dani, whose parents you know from the Corps Security series if you have read that. I loved seeing the characters I knew from that series as parents of adult kids. Axel, Dani's dad, is way overprotective of her. He smothers her a bit with his need to keep her sweet and innocent. He was cute, if a bit much for her at times. There is just something amazing about seeing these big alpha males trying to deal with protecting their children, watching them date and fall in love and all of that. I think I enjoyed this book even more than the original series. Fun times.

Dani has been in love with Cohen forever. She knows it, she thinks she hides it, that no one knows, but everyone does. She has been waiting forever to be old enough and for Cohen to finally see her the way she sees him. For his part Cohen has always liked Dani as well, but has tried to keep it just friendly with her. He has nothing to offer her yet, he is in the special services and gets deployed for months or years with no contact. He doesn't want to start something with her then leave. He doesn't think that is fair to her and he is waiting until he is out before he even thinks about seeing what there really is between them.

Cohen doesn't realize that his hot and cold act is really hurting Dani. She loves him so much, she is all in and knows this could be amazing, but he is afraid. Afraid to start something and have it not work out and imploding their families dynamics. Their parents are so close, all of them are so close, he doesn't want to mess anything up. But when things start happening, when he finally lets himself get a taste of what it would be like to have a life with her, he can't hold himself back anymore. I loved this story so much! The first part of this story is just the two of them trying to work this all out. Dani trying to get Cohen to finally think of her as more than a friend, only she doesn't realize that he already does. That he has been thinking about more than friends with her for a really long time. It was so sweet and hot and amazing. Only Cohen still had to go as he is being deployed and Dani has to try and just be fine until he comes back to her. I loved this story so much!

While Cohen is gone Dani starts to have some not so good things happen. She is in danger and in some scary situations, but good thing she has Axel and all the Corps Security guys to help her. She also has some unexpected surprises and I loved every minute of it. I just kept waiting for Cohen to come back, to figure out who was behind all of the things that were happening, and to see these two in their happily ever after. I loved it. Cohen is amazing, Dani is amazing, and I loved seeing their parents deal with their kids falling in love. It was sweet, and cute, and hot, and fun and just amazing. Definitely my favorite story from this author this far. So much fun.
