Synopsis:

June Mayson and Evan Barrister’s whirlwind courtship resulted in a secret marriage right before he left for boot camp. Evan knows deep in his gut that June is too good for him, but after getting a taste of the beautiful life they can have together, he’s unwilling to let her go. June promises to wait for him, knowing neither time or distance will ever change her feelings for Evan—that is until she’s served with divorce papers while he’s overseas and she’s forced to let him go.

Her marriage and divorce a well-kept secret, the last person June expects to run into when she moves back to her hometown is Evan. Angry over the past, she does everything within her power to ignore the pull she feels whenever he is near. But how can she ignore the pain she sees every time their eyes meet? How can she fight the need to soothe him even if she knows she’s liable to get hurt once again?

Is it possible for June and Evan to find their way back to each other again? Or will they be stopped by an outside force before they ever have a shot?

Review:

Alright. Until June. I don't know what happened with this book. Normally I am a huge Aurora Rose Reynolds fan, but this story was kind of a mess. Nothing was developed, everything happened too instantly, I didn't understand why the characters did what they did, it just didn't work for me. Really I kept looking to see is this really the same author? If I hadn't known it was I would never have guessed because it was just not that good. Sad, but I suppose everyone can have an off story for me.

So Until June. June and Evan used to be married, but no one knew. They got married right before he went off to boot camp and they knew it would be hard, but June would wait for him forever. Only she gets served with divorce papers while he is overseas with no word as to why. Now he is back and working with her brother to help protect her (even though she thinks that is a bit much). Here is where the story gets to be a mess for me. I didn't understand any of the characters. Why did Evan divorce her? I'm not 100% sure. Yeah I know the vague reason he said, but it was just that - vague. I kept waiting to find out more, to see why he did it. He never felt like he was good enough for her, but...what changed so much to make him quit trying? I can assume based on other books/people I know in his situation, but I don't feel like I really knew him at all to say for sure.

And June? She is all I won't let him in again! I can't! What if he leaves again? Oh hey it has been two seconds, I love him and we will be together forever! She takes him back way too quickly and I don't know why. She just does. I didn't see this crazy connection between them or anything, but I guess it is supposed to be there. There was no transition so it didn't make sense to me.

Then there were two added subplots that didn't really serve much of a purpose. One was June's ex, which fine he was why she needed protection in the beginning and the catalyst to get Evan and her together again, but after that nothing really happened. He would pop up ever now and again to add another scene, but it didn't really add to the story overall. And then the guy at Evan's MC that is bad news and was just suddenly resolved at the end without much detail. Afterwards I kept thinking why was this even added? It wasn't developed so it was a good addition to the story, it was just there.  This story was missing all of the things that make the authors stories great. I didn't even think Evan was an awesome alpha guy in bed so it all just fell flat for me on all fronts. Oh well, hopefully the next one will be better.
