With a Twist (Bad Habits #1) by Staci Hart - 4 star review

Synopsis:

Love is somewhere near the bottom of Lily Thomas’ list of life goals, right next to competitive eating and underwater cave diving. She’s spent six years pirouetting and pliéing her way up the ranks of the New York Ballet with her eye on the prize and love in the back seat. But now that Blane Baker -- Lily’s long time crush -- is finally single, she’ll throw her rules out the window without thinking twice.

Reality with Blane isn’t as epic as the fantasy she imagined, and the truth sends her spinning straight into the arms of the man she never knew she’d always wanted.

West Williams has been friends with Lily since the day she moved into their building and he saved her armoire from a swift, sudden death by staircase. Their friendship has always been easy, the boundaries clearly defined. With neither of them willing to risk their relationship, they’ve drifted happily through the years as companions, never considering more.

That is, until they do. And that realization changes everything.

Review:

With a Twist was a cute read. It is one of those where even though you want to yell at the main character at times, you can't as she is just being a normal person. You can identify with what she does. I mean we don't always make the best choices when it comes to people we date. It was cute.

Lily has been crushing on Blane forever. Since she first laid eyes on him. Only he has always had a girlfriend. She has just been focusing on her ballet career and trying not to think of him too much. Only now he is single and finally seems to be seeing her! He wants to meet up to "practice" and she is all for that. Only maybe he is not all she thought he was. Does he really want to date her? Or is he just using her? Plus the sex...it is just not that good. Not like she imagined. But she has been crushing on him forever so she should give him a chance right? Oh, it is obvious right from the start that Blane is not the best. It was one of those oh, what are you doing? I know you have liked him forever, but you can change your mind. It was a wait and see if she will figure it out kind of story.

Meanwhile West has been Lily's friend since he moved into the same building as her. They have always been best friends and things have just been easy between them. Only with Lily dating Blane, West is starting to act in ways he normally wouldn't. Why does it upset him so much that she is dating this loser? Why does he care?

It is obvious that Lily and West both care for each other as more than friends, but they have both put each other strictly in the friends zone for so long. When the lines start to blur it was great. They both are so worried about ruining what they have, and Lily still trying to make it work with Blane, that things are not that easy. I really enjoyed this story. The characters are not perfect, they have obstacles to overcome, they don't always say things or do things at the right time, but they work it out. It was a cute, fun read that will probably resonate with a lot of people. It is one of those stories where you understand as you might have been there before. It was fun.
