Synopsis:

Kendall Matthews is intelligent, quick on her feet, and compassionate - everything you'd want in an ICU nurse. When a fatal accident turns her world upside down, she struggles to pick up the pieces, uncertain that she'll ever regain control or rediscover her sense of self.

Dr. Anson Allaway is a renowned neurosurgeon ... and an unapologetic playboy. Kendall's colleague at South Florida's Gold Coast General, he would never consider dipping his pen in the company ink (despite rumors to the contrary).

But everything changes when Kendall brazenly looks to Anson for an escape from her grief - and he unexpectedly finds his way back from the burdens of his own past.

This is book 1 in the Gold Coast Romance series.

Review:

*Note: I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review*

Love Me Back to Life is the first part of Kendall and Anson's story. Kendall lost her husband a few months ago and is not really sure how to get back to her life without him. She doesn't necessarily want to move on and find someone else yet, but she needs to learn to live again, to be herself. She has a great plan of sleeping with the playboy doctor at the hospital where she works, where she will soon be returning to work, and that will help her heal some. Just one night, nothing more, no attachments. She just needs to feel something again.

Anson has a reputation for being a playboy. There are lots of rumors about all the ladies at the hospital he has slept with as well as all the others. Everyone knows he doesn't do relationships so that is why Kendall chose him. It would be easy to get him to agree and easy to leave afterwards. The opening to the story, Kendall getting Anson and the following sexy time, was a bit awkward for me. A bit too wordy and descriptive - like too many adjectives. There were also so many point of view changes suddenly that it was confusing at times who you were reading. It all just gets jumbles together and I just thought hmm...I don't know that this will be the book for me. It was alright, just not great. Then we get to the after that first night and things got much better. I got to know Kendall and Anson and I really started enjoying the story. Yes it still got too wordy at times, yes there was still the point of view issue at times, but it wasn't as bad as the opening scenes.

Anson and Kendall are a surprisingly good pair. He knows what she is going through, can be there for her, but she still has a lot of issues. She still has a lot of things to work through. She is not really ready to move on, but she doesn't want to be stuck standing still either. I really thought the way she was written, her ups and downs, her wanting to date Anson one minute but pushing him away the next, were wonderfully written. It felt real to me. She was really struggling with everything. She likes Anson, but it hasn't been that long since she lost her husband. Can she really move on with someone else already? It is a bit of a rollercoaster ride, but seemed true. You feel bad for both of them. You see her struggling, you see him struggling to be there and not push her, you just feel for them both. They obviously like each other, but is the timing really right?

This definitely was one of the better stories of learning to let someone in after a loss that I have read. It wasn't the husband's best friend or brother or someone she has known forever and now that the husband is gone the friend gets to swoop in and live happily ever after. It wasn't that Kendall magically found someone to make everything better for her. There were no suddenly everything is sunshine and rainbows because of Anson. This was just a woman trying to pick up the pieces and in doing so accidentally finds someone she likes, who likes her. The emotions, the way Kendall dealt with everything, was just perfect. It turned into a really great read.

I was reading along waiting to see what would happen with the story. Would they be able to work things out? Would Kendall be able to really let Anson in? What are Anson's big secrets? I was very eager to find out. Then I realized I only had a few more minutes left in the book! It is only part one of their story! You have to wait until part 2 to find out what happens next. It doesn't end on a super cliffhanger, but it does end leaving me with more questions and wanting the next book. Hopefully it is not too long before I can find out what happens. For a book that started off just so so I am really looking forward to seeing what happens next.
