When I'm Gone (Rosemary Beach #11) Abbi Glines

When I'm Gone
When I'm Gone (The Rosemary Beach Series Book 11)

Synopsis:

From #1 New York Times bestselling author Abbi Glines comes the next new adult novel in the Rosemary Beach series, in which we meet Mase, a Texas heartthrob first introduced in Take a Chance who comes to Rosemary Beach to stir things up.

I had an urge to fix all her problems. Which was stupid. She was doing fine without me. But something about those big eyes…

Mase Colt-Manning has always preferred his humble life as a Texas rancher to his birthright as the son of a legendary rock star. In fact, he rarely visits his father’s rarefied world in Rosemary Beach, especially if it means bunking at his vile half-sister Nan’s house—until one visit leads to a chance encounter with a young, gorgeous house maid who awakens him with her off-key but spirited imitation of a country music star…

Reese Ellis finally has her freedom. After escaping a lifetime of abuse from her parents and classmates for an undiagnosed learning disorder, she seizes the opportunity to be a house maid to some of the richest families in Rosemary Beach. But her job is in jeopardy when she causes an accident at the home of her most important client, Nan Dillon. When a hot, half-naked stranger with a cowboy’s swagger comes to her rescue, she’s intrigued—then afraid once he shows his own interest. Reese has never met a trustworthy man in her life. Will Mase be any different?

Review:

I really enjoy Abbi Glines books and When I'm Gone was no different. There is something about them that I just love. They are fun, quick reads.

When I'm Gone is the first in the Mase/Reese storyline. Reese hasn't had a very good life up until this point. Her stepfather abused her as did everyone else in her town. She thinks she is stupid because no one ever helped her with her learning disorder. For as much as she has gone through she is so strong. She doesn't trust men much, but she it has been a few years since she escaped her hometown and she is trying to move on from her past.

Mase is in town visiting his sister and isn't expecting to find the love of his life or anything. He really doesn't even want to be tied down yet. He is too young. But then he sees Reese cleaning the house he is staying in, Nan's house, and everything changes. He can see that she has a dark past, that there are things she is not ready for, but he wants to help her as much as he can. He gets her tutoring so she can learn to read and write, they talk all the time when he is at his ranch in Texas, they just grow closer. Whenever Reese needs him he drops everything to be there for her. They were great together. Mase pushes her a little bit, but tries really hard not to push her too far. He always makes sure to ask her what is and isn't okay. He was just wonderful with Reese.

Reese does grow and start to really leave her past behind. It takes a bit, there is some drama, but they love each other so they get their happily ever after. For now at least. The next book I hope isn't too bad. I love these two together so I want them to just be happy. Reese definitely deserves that after all she has been through.
