Changing Course
Changing Course (Wrecked and Ruined Book 1)

Synopsis:

I met Sarah Kate Erickson when I was twenty-one years old. I was lucky enough to keep her for seven years before a tragic accident stole her from me. She didn’t die, but sometimes I think it would have been easier if she had.

I lived in a haze for those four years after the accident. Catering to her every need, even though she hated the very sight of my face. I tried to hold on to her and the future that we were supposed to build together. But you can’t hold on to someone that doesn’t exist anymore.

It wasn’t until I met Jesse Addison, a barista at the local coffee shop, that I realized I didn’t just lose Sarah that tragic night, I lost myself as well. Jesse taught me how to let go of the past and learn to love again. But what happens when your past haunts your present and the woman you used to love refuses to accept the woman you can’t live without?

**Intended for readers 18+. Each book in this series can be read as a standalone.**

Review:

After reading and loving the authors On the Ropes series I thought I would give Changing Courses a try. It sounded interesting and I was just hoping it would be as good as the other books by this author.

When I first started reading this story I thought eh, I don't know about this. I wasn't enjoying it that much. I didn't care for Sarah and I didn't really see Sarah and Brett being in love. I get why we have a little background, have Brett tell us how he met and fell for Sarah, a bit about how their life was before the accident, but I just didn't like it that much. I was a little disappointed. Then we get to the present day and meet Jesse and everything got so much better.

Jesse is such a kind, compassionate person. She puts up with more than most people would without thinking badly of people. She was amazing. She starts dating Brett not knowing that Sarah is still alive, and man those first few days between Brett and Jesse were crazy. There must have really been something between the two of them for her to stay like she does. I don't know many people who would put up with their boyfriends crazy wife. I loved her even if at times I was like how can you keep doing this? How can you just put up with the roller coaster ride you are on?

Brett doesn't love Sarah anymore, but he is not the smartest a lot of the time. He still feels like he needs to stand by Sarah, be there for her even though she hates him. Even when it hurts Jesse he has to try and help Sarah. He feels obligated to. Man Sarah is crazy. Like seriously needs some help crazy. I don't know why she hasn't gotten it sooner. Jesse was wonderful with her. Even though Sarah would attack her and be horrible to her Jesse still felt compassion for Sarah. Jesse really is an incredible person.

Their story is long and bumpy. Brett doesn't know how to move on, doesn't think he can be in love or promise someone forever again, and man you just want to shake him at times. Like get over it dude! You are going to lose this amazing woman if you don't figure your issues out. It must be hard and I was so happy to see him with Jesse, to see him start to move on. They really were so cute together. Brett is great for her as he helps her be more confident. He won't let her just close up or just let him do whatever even if it is not what she wants. He makes her tell him what she wants, what she likes and doesn't, and not just accept things because she is too insecure to say anything. Really they were great together. All the drama would break my heart, but then you have the happy happy calm times that made it all worth it. The end is a bit intense, but oh I did enjoy this story. Overall a really great read.
