Broken Course (Wrecked & Ruined #3) by Aly Martinez

Broken Course
Broken Course (Wrecked and Ruined Book 3)

Synopsis:

Seven years ago, my life changed forever. One accident and the person I saw in the mirror no longer resembled the woman I used to be. I was lost and confused inside my own body. I felt alone and disconnected from the world, carrying the incredible weight of guilt and loss that wasn't even mine to harbor.

Then fate led me to Leo James. He taught me that crazy could be perfectly normal and it shouldn't hurt to breathe. Don't get me wrong. Leo isn't perfect. He has his own cross to bear, and the truth is, that might be why I fell for him in the first place. But despite everything he does for me, learning to forgive myself is infinitely harder than overlooking the flaws of another.

Now, the secrets and lies of our past have begun to dictate our future—threatening to ruin us before we get the chance to try. Perhaps we were cursed from the start. Or maybe, just maybe, the remnants of our fractured lives will fit together to form one whole, where love isn’t questioned and being happy is…well, easy.

Can a second broken soul be enough to fill the voids of my own? Or will such scarred pasts prove too much for our love alone to overcome?

Review:

After reading Among the Echoes I was really excited to start reading Leo's story. I wasn't sure if I would enjoy this one as much as the others since it is also Sarah's story and I really did not care for her. She was super crazy in the first book and just went too far. However she quickly won me over and I loved Broken Course just as much as all the others.

If you have read the prior books in the series you already know Sarah. She was married to Brett when she was in an accident that killed her best friend. She has been consumed with guilt because she thought she was driving therefore she killed her friend. She just couldn't seem to get past that and was not a good person, especially in the first book. She was so angry and bitter she was not my favorite person. When this story opens she has been going to therapy for a long time and has really changed. She has been trying to get her life back together and be a better person. She is trying to move on and live again.

Leo has similar demons. He struggles with what he let happen to Erica, though truly he didn't have much of a choice. In Erica's book you see him struggle somewhat, but you don't see just how broken he is by what happened. When he had Erica to take care of, to keep safe, it was better, but now that she is happily married he doesn't have anything to drown out the memories. They just keep playing in his head, though when this story opens he too has been going to group and working through his issues.

Sarah and Leo definitely have a meet cute and Leo is drawn to her. He wants to get to know her. He is worried though that once he does, once she gets to know him and finds out about his past, she won't like him much. These two were so perfect for each other! They both have that dark past, the things they did that they are not proud of, but they both are moving past that. They just are perfect since they really know what the other is going through and can help. Oh I loved them. Sarah is not really sure at first if she is ready to date, but her sister pushes her which I loved.

Leo does have some secrets that when I found out in the beginning I just thought oh no! This is going to be bad when this comes out. And it was, but not as bad as I had originally though. Sarah likes to think worst case the world is going to end, but she has people who make her see that maybe things aren't always as bad as she first thinks. They talk her down and make her see things in different, more positive ways. Ways that even I didn't see, but once the other characters pointed it out I was just like oh, yeah, that makes sense. She is always thinking, always making things a bit worse than they are, but Leo really helps her get out of her head and just be happy. I was really surprise how much I enjoyed this story. These two were perfect together and I loved them both. You also get to see snippets of the past couples. Oh and it took me until this book to realize that Slate, Erica's husband, is the same guy who opens the boxing gym and helps Till and his brothers so much in the On the Ropes series! Man that made me love this even more since it tied everything together somewhat. These books were all such great reads. Really this is one of my new favorite authors.
