Snapped (Tracer's #4) by Laura Griffin

Snapped (Tracers Series Book 4)

Synopsis:

Sophie Barrett Thinks She's Lucky To Be Alive.
She May Be Dead Wrong.

On a sweltering summer afternoon, Sophie Barrett walks into a nightmare. A sniper has opened fire on a college campus. When the carnage is over, three people - plus the shooter - are dead and dozens more are injured. Sophie escapes virtually unscathed. Yet as details emerge from the investigation, she becomes convinced that this wasn't the random, senseless act it appeared to be. No one wants to believe her - not the cops, not her colleagues at the Delphi Center crime lab, and definitely not Jonah Macon, the homicide detective who’s already saved her life once.

Jonah has all kinds of reasons for hoping Sophie is mistaken. Involving himself with a key witness could derail an already messy investigation, not to mention jeopardize his career. But Sophie is as determined and fearless as she is sexy. If he can’t resist her, he can at least swear to protect her. Because if Sophie is right, she’s made herself the target of a killer without a conscience. And the real terror is only just beginning....

Review:

Snapped was another great Tracer series read. I just love these. I love reading how everyone goes about trying to solve the crimes. Even though some of the characters in this story annoyed the bejeezus out of me I still loved reading it.

Snapped is the story of Sophie and Jonah. At the end of the last book Sophie had been kidnapped by the killer and was rescued just in the nick of time by Jonah and the cops. There was something between the two of them even then, but with that incident Jonah didn't want to overstep and try to start something when she is still healing.

When this story opens Sophie is on her way to the local university to sign up for some classes. She wants to try and get a promotion at work so she is trying to take classes to help her career. Only she never makes it to registration as a gunman opens fire. Three people were killed, multiple injured before the gunman killed himself. Sophie was there watching as a pregnant lady died across from her. So not the best time for Sophie. Just trying to get over her abduction and now this.

Jonah is one of the cops that responds to the school shooting and when he sees Sophie there he is worried about her. He likes her, he just might not admit how much even to himself. Now that she is a witness to the shooting he really should stay away. Only he can't.

Sophie was annoying in this story. She treated all men like they only want one thing from her - sex. She also keeps trying to throw herself at Jonah and have sex with him as a way to like repay him for stuff. She is all kinds of messed up in the head, but she frustrated me to no end. I just wanted to be like can't you see how amazing Jonah is? He is so nice to you and obviously doesn't just want a one night stand. You keep trying to use sex with him, and he doesn't take you up on it and you still think the only thing he wants is sex. Argh she was frustrating at times. She has a lot going on and when she remembers seeing something that prevents the police from wrapping up this shooting in a nice little bow she gets in even more trouble. Someone is after here and she doesn't make the smartest decisions. You would think almost getting yourself killed multiple times would make you more cautious, but apparently not with her. She is set against doing what Jonah wants her to do to keep herself safe because...well because she just is.

Jonah gets frustrated with Sophie just like I did. He would get so angry with her and I loved it. Even though he would be furious and was trying to stay away from her romantically since she is a witness and needs protection, he can't help but want to be with her at the same time. His self control is really tested and it was fun to read. He was really a great guy and always trying to do the right thing by Sophie. I loved him.

Through all of that I loved reading about how the cops tried to solve the case. How they try and unravel everything to make the picture complete. I love that stuff. So even though Sophie could really frustrate me, I still loved reading this story. They are so much fun! And intense and sweet and just really great read. I cannot wait to read the next one now.
