Half Black Soul (Alexa Montgomery #2) by H.D. Gordon

Half Black Soul (The Alexa Montgomery Saga Book 2)

Synopsis:

In the past few weeks Alexa Montgomery has had her entire world flipped upside down. She's gone from living a semi-normal teenage life to a life full of vampires and werewolves who all expect her to deliver them from the control of an evil dictator.

Alexa is the last of her kind; a Sun Warrior, and now she has left the safety of Two Rivers to search for her mother, but she's left her sister behind to do so, and Nelly is the one person that she was told that she must always protect. Kayden, a vampire who is Alexa's other half, has followed her on her journey. But, secrets are about to come out, relationships will break and danger lies just up ahead. Will Alexa be able to get through all of this and make it out alive? And, will she be able to protect Nelly from danger when she is so far away?

Review:

Half Black Soul seemed like a completely different book from the first one. Alexa is completely different in this one, in a good way. She is not as annoying, stronger, more grown up, but it doesn't make sense since there is not a time gap between book one and two. Still because it was such a change for the better I didn't mind.

Alexa in Half Black Soul was not as annoying as she was in the first one. It is like she was more grown up, more accepting of her responsibilities, but yet still vulnerable and still thinking she is a monster. She talks more with her monster self, she hates when she lets it out and bad things happen. She killed a guy who wasn't a good person, but that still hurts her. She feels terrible about the things she does when she lets the monster take charge. Good thing for Kayden who helps ground her. He can take some of her pain and suffering and help her feel better. He can also tame her monster side.

This book also starts the multiple point of views. In the first book we just got Alexa's viewpoint, but this one we have some chapters from her and some from Nelly. Really you needed it since Alexa left Nelly in Two Rivers to go try and save their mom. Without Nelly's point of view you would miss out on a lot of the story. And there are some twists in this one, some things I was not expecting! Can't wait to read more and see what happens!

Alexa and Kayden grow closer in this chapter of the story. They both set out to try and save Alexa's mother and they can't help but be drawn to each other. They are perfect together, they help each other so much and would do anything for each other. I will say Alexa being all I love Kayden then remembering that she has a boyfriend back in town was a bit...I wish she would have been like I need to break up with Jacks when I get back as obviously I should be with Kayden, but she wasn't. Because really you know that nothing will work with Jacks. Besides the fact that you obviously love Kayden romantically, you need him. That would never work with Jacks as your boyfriend. Just cut him loose already! Hopefully that happens soon after she returns in the next book.

While Alexa and Kayden are out trying to save her mom, Nelly is still in Two Rivers. She is starting to figure out that things aren't what they seem. She is starting to realize that maybe she should practice her skills and try to be better with the whole mind control/reading people's mind thing. She starts to see what Alexa saw in the first book and realize that she should have listened to her all along. It ends in a bit of a cliffhanger so I can't wait to see what happens next.
