Breakable (Contours of the Heart #2) by Tammara Webber
Breakable (Contours of the Heart Book 2)
Synopsis:
He was lost and alone. Then he found her.
And the future seemed more fragile than ever.
As a child, Landon Lucas Maxfield believed his life was perfect and looked forward to a future filled with promise — until tragedy tore his family apart and made him doubt everything he ever believed.
All he wanted was to leave the past behind. When he met Jacqueline Wallace, his desire to be everything she needed came so easy…
As easy as it could be for a man who learned that the soul is breakable and that everything you hoped for could be ripped away in a heartbeat.
Review:
I remember really enjoying Easy, though it has been a while since I read it. When I saw Sweet was coming out I found that I missed Breakable somehow so I decided to check it out first. Well I was a bit disappointed in it honestly. This is the same story as Easy, only from Lucas' point of view.
When Lucas first sees Jacqueline he is drawn to her. It is in the class that he is the tutor for, but which he sits through so he can go over what has been covered with those students needing help. He can't help but watch her during class even though she has a boyfriend. Plus nothing can come of it since he is the tutor for the class.
When Jacqueline's boyfriend breaks up with her she almost tanks her grades. To make it up she has to do an extra assignment with the help of the class tutor, Landon. As she starts to get closer to Lucas she doesn't realize that she also writes to him as Landon the tutor. It was kind of creepy in a way. I remember liking him in Easy, but with his telling of the story? Not so much. He definitely should have told her sooner who he was.
That and what happened in the past? What he blames himself for? It is one of those obviously he is not responsible but he is determined to blame himself situations. I had forgotten what happened to him, so when I got the entire story I was just like oh, okay. One of these situations. I don't know what it was exactly, but I just didn't really connect with Lucas. Oh well, it just wasn't my favorite read.
