Rebel (Dead Man's Ink #1) by Callie Hart
Rebel (Dead Man's Ink Book 1)
Synopsis:
Rebel and Sophia's story.
The first of a three part series. This novel contains a small snippet which has already been released in the Owned: An Alpha Anthology, however it is followed by a full story installment.
Sophia
Sometimes, you don't mean to become another person. Sometimes the choice is made for you, and pretending is the only thing that keeps you going. When Alexis Romera is taken and her kidnappers find her fake ID in her purse, she must become Sophia in order to keep her family safe. Revealing her real identity to the man she's sold to would be easy enough, but can she trust him? Hell bent on revenging the murder of his uncle, Rebel doesn't seem all that interested in playing things safe.
In fact, nothing about the secretive, dark and brooding MC president seems safe at all.
Rebel
What do you do when the man who raised you is murdered, and the only witness is kidnapped girl who's being sold as a sex slave? You buy her, of course. As president to the most powerful motorcycle club in America, Rebel isn't lacking in power. There are strings the man can pull, and entire criminal organisations and corporate businesses alike would fall to their knees. However, along with such power comes intense interest. The DEA have their eye fixed solely on the MC...and they're just waiting for Rebel to trip up.
Getting Sophia to testify is the only way to bring the Los Oscuros cartel down. The beautiful, dark haired, dark eyed woman is belligerent and uncooperative and unlikely to bend to his will, but Rebel has a few tricks up his sleeve to make her compliant--he'll charm her until she's bending over backwards to please him.
Of course, falling for her might cause a few hiccups along the way...
Review:
Oh Rebel, for some reason I thought you were a stand alone, not the first in a series. I suppose I should have read the synopsis first, but oh well. Now I will fully admit that I wasn't expecting to like Rebel that much. Really the only reason I did pick it up to read is because I liked the Blood & Roses series so much and I was curious what Sloane's sisters story was. I didn't think I was going to enjoy it as much as that series because I just don't care for motorcycle club romances. Something about the way the MC guys treat their ladies I really do not like. Even when they say they are different and not like most, they still are to me. So I was completely surprised by how much I loved this story. I think I even enjoyed it more than the Blood & Roses series! Going into this story I would have said that was crazy talk as I loved Zeth so much! But Rebel...oh Rebel you won me over.
The story starts off with Alexis/Sophia being kidnapped by some not very good guys. The guy who takes her, Raphael..he just makes me shiver and not in a good way. He is so creepy and cringe inducing. Way to set up a really great bad guy as he was just...yeah. No good. I wasn't expecting to like Sophia as much as I did, but she was fun. She has spunk and she is not just going to sit back and let people do whatever they want with her. She is usually smart about it as well which is great! I cannot imagine being in her place.
Luckily she gets to Rebel before anything too bad happens to her. As I said above I don't usually like MC guys, but Rebel I loved! He says right off that his club is not like the other clubs, women are members just like men, not the mens old ladies who get treated in a way I don't like. I didn't believe him at first, but he is much different from most MC men. His club is very different and it is not at all like the others I have read. Rebel was awesome and he has so much on his plate I don't know how he does it. You find out quite a bit of his backstory and how he used to be good, but now sees himself as bad but trying to be bad in a good way kind of. I really liked him and he and Sophia are going to be amazing together!! I cannot wait for the next chapter of their story! Luckily this one doesn't end in too bad of a place, not too much of a cliffhanger, but I just want to read more!! I want their whole story!!
