Wait for Me (Montgomery Brothers #1) by Samantha Chase

Wait for Me (Montgomery Brothers)

Synopsis:

There’s no time like the present…

Executive assistant Emma Taylor is desperate for a little time away; away from her job, her life and from thoughts of her boss’s son who doesn’t seem to know she even exists. Tired of waiting for the time to be right, she takes advantage of her boss’s generous offer for a little weekend getaway to thank her for helping out with a difficult business deal.

Unless you’re still running from your past…

Former NFL superstar Lucas Montgomery is still suffering from a career-ending injury. His self-imposed exile from life is exactly what he wants; a sanctuary where there’s no chance for disappointment or distractions and that’s exactly the way he likes it. While his family has been patiently waiting for Lucas to come around and embrace life once again, they don’t realize that it wasn’t just his career that was lost, but his sense of identity.

…And afraid to hope for the future

Lucas thought everything was fine until sweet, sexy and completely off-limits Emma Taylor comes crashing into his carefully constructed world one snowy weekend and turns his entire life upside down.

Was Mother Nature really to blame or did someone else lend a hand?

Review:

After reading some great Christmas reads by Samantha Chase (Mistletoe Between Friends was my favorite Christmas read from last year) I was excited to read from this author. Luckily I was not disappointed in Wait For Me. It is another great people get stuck together for the weekend and end up falling in love story. If done right I really love that storyline for some reason.

Lucas used to be a big shot football player until he got an injury which prevented him from playing again. Since then he has shut himself off from everything. He just wants to suffer alone in his house in the woods and just have a non stop pity party. He still works with his dad and brothers, but he works from home for the most part. He only comes into the office once a month, but he tries to stay away from everyone as much as possible. He doesn't like to be reminded he was a football player. I mean if he is no longer that guy who is he?

Emma works for Lucas' father. She has had a crush on Lucas forever. Whenever he comes into the office they have a routine. She tries to get him to notice her, but it just doesn't seem to work. One weekend when her boss needs her to bring some papers up to him at his cabin, in exchange for a relaxing spa weekend for her inconvenience, Emma jumps at the chance to have some time to herself.

When Emma ends up stuck at Lucas' house for the weekend things get interesting. Emma is the first person in a long time to not just placate Lucas. She calls him out on his poor me attitude and behavior. She won't stand for it and it was great. Emma is exactly what Lucas needs and they were great together. It takes some time, and some bumps especially when they get back to 'real life', but in the end it is worth it. A really great read that I loved from the start.
