When We Met (Fools Gold #13) by Susan Mallery

When We Met (Fool's Gold Book 13)

Synopsis:

New York Times bestselling author Susan Mallery invites you back to Fool's Gold, where a newcomer to town might finally meet the man she never knew she needed…

Angel Whittaker earned his scars the hard way, but the scars that can't be seen are the ones that haunt him the most. Since he moved to Fool's Gold, California, he's cobbled together a life for himself as a bodyguard trainer. If he's not exactly happy, at least his heart is safe.

Working with pro-football superstars taught tough-talking PR woman Taryn Crawford one thing—she can go toe to toe with any man. But then dark, dangerous former Special Ops Angel targets her for seduction…and challenges her to resist his tempting kisses.

Even in four-inch heels, Taryn never backs down. Unless, somehow, Angel can convince her that surrender might feel even better than victory.

Review:

When We Met is the 13th book in the Fool's Gold series and somehow I am still loving it. I am not sure why I am not over this series by now. Each book follows the same general outline. I know that they are going to get together, get close, then the guy will freak out, leave the girl, she will cry to her friends then the guy will realize he made a mistake and needs the girl and come back. Every single time this happens. Every time. There was once I thought the girl would be the one to leave and come back but nope, the guy did. So how do I love these books when I know what will happen? I don't know. Somehow Susan Mallery still keeps them entertaining. Somehow I still love them.

This is the story of Angel and Taryn. Taryn is the tough no nonsense girl working with the ex pro-football guys. At times she is just one of the guys, but she also very much a girl with her affinity for clothing. High end clothing. She always looks amazing and that is the way she likes it. Angel is one of the guys and has some nasty scars. He is kind of rough and tough and direct. When Angel first approached Taryn, after noticing and watching her from afar, it is hilarious. He is so direct and to the point it was great. Taryn is not used to that from men so it intrigues her. They do play some fun games, but not the kind you normally see. These are they both know what is going on and no one gets hurt.

Both Angel and Taryn are not looking for anything serious. There is a mutual attraction that they share so they go with it. They like each other and grow closer throughout the book, but they both know it won't be anything more.

My favorite part of the book? Angel and his troop of girls! Oh my goodness they were so cute! Angel was so much fun with them! He ropes Taryn into helping him with the girls and it is just perfect. Just picturing this big, tough guy with all these young girls was great. So cute. He is terrified at first as he doesn't know the first thing about girls, but it all works out.

Of course we then have some drama, Taryn realizing she wants more/is in love with Angel, etc. Angel doesn't react well since there were some tense moments he had to deal with, but of course it all works out in the end. Still a great read. I can't wait for next year and the next set of books!
