Sweet Evil (Sweet Evil Trilogy #1) by Wendy Higgins

Sweet Evil

Synopsis:

Embrace the Forbidden

What if there were teens whose lives literally depended on being bad influences?

This is the reality for sons and daughters of fallen angels.
Tenderhearted Southern girl Anna Whitt was born with the sixth sense to see and feel emotions of other people. She's aware of a struggle within herself, an inexplicable pull toward danger, but it isn't until she turns sixteen and meets the alluring Kaidan Rowe that she discovers her terrifying heritage and her willpower is put to the test. He's the boy your daddy warned you about. If only someone had warned Anna.

Forced to face her destiny, will Anna embrace her halo or her horns?

Review:

Oh Kaiden and Anna. Sweet Evil is a re-read for me as I just recently remembered there is a third book I have not read yet! I don't know how I forgot about it as I love this series, but somehow it happened. It has been long enough since I read the first two that I don't remember the story enough to just pick up the third book so I get to re-read them. I love Kaiden and Anna. Two very different people, but they are so hot together.

Anna and Kaiden are not human. They are both Nephilim, part demon, who are expected to work to try and cause trouble with the humans. They are supposed to get the humans to sin and do bad things, things they normally might not do. Kaiden's father is the Duke of Lust so he has to seduce girls. Anna's father is the Duke of Substance Abuse so she has a strong pull to drugs and alcohol. Without her strong sense of what is right and wrong she could easily give in to that pull and become dependent on them.

One night Anna comes tumbling into Kaiden's life and starts changing him for the better. She starts making him rethink things he has always thought were true. He has never really cared for anyone, never had anyone love him, he was not raised with love and affection. His dad is one of the more ruthless Duke's and Kaiden knows he would not hesitate to have him killed if he doesn't follow orders. Kaiden has had to work for years, sleep with many many girls some way too young. He really hates it, but what else is he supposed to do? He doesn't really see any options until he meets Anna. Anna who is so sweet and innocent and always doing what is right. Anna who cannot even tell a little lie without feeling terrible about it. Anna shakes up his world and Kaiden doesn't really know what to do about it. I mean it could never work between them no matter what they feel for each other. The Duke's and other demons would never allow it.

Anna is still an innocent girl when she meets Kaiden. She doesn't even know what she is until he starts to tell her. She has always known she was different, but never knew there were others like her. Her amazing goodness that she has in her, the definite ability to know right and wrong and to always do right was just something I loved. She comes across as just a genuinely good person who helps others as much as she can. There is an obvious connection between Kaiden and Anna, but Kaiden keeps trying to push her away. He knows there is no hope so he tries to make her hate him. He keeps pushing and pushing, but it doesn't really work. When Anna finds out she might have to start working, as all Nephilim are expected to, she obviously is not very happy about that. The Nephilim are treated as lesser beings, below even humans to the other demons. I can't wait to see how Anna stands up for her fellow Nephilim and helps to balance the good and evil. She knows not all Neph are evil, but they also don't feel like they really have a choice. I can't wait for them to have one and see what happens in the end.
