Stray
Synopsis:
Erin Timms took a new job as a veterinarian in Sunshine, Colorado for two important reasons: to get away from her ex, and to give herself a chance at a new life. But when devastating news of her ex follows her there, she begins to think she has made a terrible mistake.
Tall, stunning-looking Jon Miles had only one goal: to save the mountain canyon where Sunshine is located from businessmen who want to exploit it. But how can he do that when he is already an outcast?
There was nothing to suggest they’d ever meet, much less strike a spark of red-hot romance. Except that Erin can never turn away a stray...
Stray surprised me. I started reading it and almost put it right back down again since I didn't think I would enjoy it. It starts off pretty quick with Erin and Jon meeting and being super attracted to each other. This follows some self loving by both of them thinking of the other and it just seemed like alright, this is just going to be a sex book with no real story (or light story). I was surprised that after that it really wasn't. It focused more on the story, and yes there was some sex but it wasn't the only thing happening like I had thought originally.
Erin's boyfriend left her once he graduated medical school leaving her pretty upset. He didn't sound very good, was always telling her how being a vet is not a real doctor and such. She paid for everything while they were both in school so she was pretty angry when he just left her. Since she is hurt and angry she decides to try small town life when she sees an ad for a vet wanted. The guy who owns the clinic is thinking of retiring soon so she would hopefully be able to buy the practice and have her own place one day.
Jon is the son of one of the shareholders for the resort. The people in Sunshine hate resort people. Why? Well when the original people came to the town to make the resort they promised to be environmentally friendly and keep it small, not this massive horrible mess that they have now. Since the founders lied to the town the town is none too happy with the people who now own the resort. Jon, however, is not like the others. He is secretly trying to get enough people to vote with him so he can oust the current CEO and chairman of the board and try to and save Sunshine. The resort wants to put up yet another high rise hotel which would kill the valley. He is going to do everything he can to stop that. To do this he started dating the daughter of the current CEO to try and keep him from finding out his plan (even though the daughter is a nightmare). His plans start to unravel a little bit when he meets Erin and actually likes her. He wants to get to know her better, but can't really when he is dating this other girl. It doesn't help that Erin knows he has a girlfriend so she doesn't accept when he keeps asking her to go to dinner with him.
Eventually they do work things out, but there are a lot of ups and downs along the way. Jon does some very stupid things, some things that almost make him lose Erin for good, but they work it out eventually. It was a surprisingly good story and I enjoyed reading it. I did like Erin and Jon and I liked them together. A sweet story and a good read.
